From the earth to the sky - a porous parallelogram for Gugging University.
The solitary new building is supposed to be a landmark for the upcoming excellence university.
In the figurative sense the Lecture Hall with its rising concrete body forms a bridge to the (existing) Central Building. It is part of a staged fluctuation circle way from outside via the Auditorium to the Central building via a new glass bridge on the first floor to the new spiral staircase in the old building creating a charming and generous double storey lobby space.
The outdoor space beneath the Auditorium offers an open passage and a sheltered public space for public outdoor activities.
The emphasis of the design is on porosity and light....earth and sky.
With LED technology positioned underneath the aluminum perforated skin a very special night time appearance will be created allowing the building to have a nightlight glow that can be altered from green-blue to yellow-orange or simply white.
This idea makes the Auditorium a far visible landmark for the University - even at nighttime.
